6 Fantastic Tips to Create a Trade Show Booth Design That Sells for You


Thinking of taking your business to a trade show? Trade shows are great for getting the word out about your company. You’ll need to switch to in-person marketing mode, though.

While Search Engine Optimization and other online tools are helpful for digital marketing, you can’t really use them in person. That means you’ve got to market your services or products in other ways.

Believe it or not, the way you design your trade show booth is essential to the traffic you get. Not sure how to begin? Here are six tips for creating a fantastic trade show booth design that’s sure to grab attention.

1. Use Branded Table Cloths

This might sound like a funny idea, but trust us, it grabs attention. People notice brands, and a table is the perfect place to display yours.

It doesn’t take much to create an effective table cloth display. Simply choose what size and type of table you want, then find the right cover for it. You could use a table that’s specifically for consulting with attendees, or something larger for holding displays and products.

Whatever type of table you use, your branded table cloth will work as a sort of banner. It’ll clearly let everyone know whose booth they’re visiting.

2. Use Bright Colors

You might be familiar with using more subdued colors in your office and on your marketing materials. That isn’t going to cut it at a trade show. You’ve got to go with something flashier.

What if bright, flashy colors aren’t part of your brand design? That’s okay. You don’t have to have every single element of your booth match your brand colors.

Bright colors naturally draw more attention than duller ones. If you want to stand out, you need to use them. 

They need to be used tastefully, though. You don’t want to look like you’re stuck in the ’90s.

Consider how you can use bright colors in your signage, brochures, flyers, and overall booth decor. Mix colored lights with white curtains or fabric walls to grab attention with both light and color.

3. Display Your Company Name

While this tip should be pretty obvious, don’t forget to do it. You may get so focused on your booth itself that you forget to display your actual company name.

Feel free to get creative in how you do this. If you don’t have a lot of funds, you can still come up with something fun. Simply creating a template on your computer and using it to order a big foam display will work just fine.

You can go as simple or as fancy as you like, as long as you don’t overdo it. Your sign doesn’t need to have literal bells and whistles, but however you display your name, it should draw attention.

4. Use Your Products as Decor

Don’t forget to place your products on display. They can be used in your overall decorations as you design your booth.

If your products can be used for interactive activities, that’s even better. Let the trade show attendees try out your software, cooking gadgets, or whatever else you sell.

If you sell services instead of products, you’ll have to be more creative. Find a way to give attendees a taste of what you offer. That could be free samples of your latest healthy snack, or a 10-minute session evaluating someone’s website design.

5. Make It Adaptable

Chances are, you’ll attend more than one trade show. If you’re going to put the money into creating a booth, it’s a good idea to use it as much as you can.

But what if the booth size you’re given at the first show isn’t the same as the one at the second? If you plan ahead to design an adaptable booth, you won’t have to worry about it.

Adaptable booths are ideal for anyone who plans to or might visit more than one show. The venues are different, as are the number of participants, so it’s always good to be able to adjust your footprint.

Ideally, your design will be flexible, giving you the same elements you love no matter the space that’s available. As you design your booth, consider how you’d use it in a 10×10 space versus a 20×20 space.

You don’t need to use every feature each time you attend a show. But you’ll appreciate having something ready and usable if you end up needing to downsize or fill in more space.

6. Integrate Your Social Media Channels

Keep your existing customer base engaged by integrating your social media channels into your design. This could be as simple as adding a screen where attendees’ responses to your posts can be shown.

This can also provide you with an interactive element. Ask a question on your social media page and encourage visitors to answer. You could give a prize to the first person whose comment shows up next on the screen.

Not only does this engage people, but it also gets you more followers on social media.
